PARIS, France – The UN climate conference will go ahead as planned near Paris later this month despite the terror attacks that, according to local police, killed 128 people in the French capital, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Saturday, November 14.

"COP21 must be held," Fabius said, using the conference's name, but he added security would be increased.

In Washington, an American official said President Barack Obama would participate in the meeting.

The November 30-December 11 meeting, taking place under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is being held at Le Bourget, on the northern rim of Paris. (READ: What’s happening in Paris in December? 10 things to know)

"COP21" means the 21st conference of parties in the UNFCCC.

The talks aim at forging a post-2020 pact to curb greenhouse gases so that global warming does not exceed two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial levels. – Rappler.com
