Palace suspends gov't work in north, central Luzon

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Malacañang has suspended work in government offices in Regions 1, 2, 3 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on Monday, October 19, due to the effects of Typhoon Lando (Koppo).

In a statement released to media, Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa Jr, upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, cancelled work in government offices in the embattled regions.

Government personnel involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster, and emergency response are excluded from the suspension, Malacañang said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has suspended work in Regions 1, 2, 3, and CAR for Monday, with no need for a skeleton force.

Some classes in Regions 1, 2 ,3, and CAR for Monday have already been suspended. (READ: Class Suspensions: Monday, October 19).

Typhoon Lando (Koppu) continues its slow march through Northern Luzon on Sunday, October 18, and is expected to linger over Luzon for most of the coming week. The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) until Saturday, October 24. – Rappler.com
