MANILA, Philippines – Two lanes on the northbound and southbound directions of major thoroughfare EDSA will be reserved for the delegates of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Manila.

The Philippines will be hosting the leaders's summit from November 18-19, with some 21 heads of state and their security detail expected to attend.

Two inner lanes on EDSA, from Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City to Mall of Asia in Pasay City, will be reserved for the exclusive use of APEC delegates from November 18 to 19, according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino.

"There will be plastic barricades. Only APEC delegates will be allowed to enter the lanes," Tolentino said on Tuesday, September 29.

An APEC lane will also be designated along the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard. The northbound lane will be used for two-way traffic.

Some 2,504 MMDA personnel will be deployed to secure the delegates, Tolentino added.

In preparation for the summit, the public works department said it will finish repairs on the Ayala Bridge in Manila by November 15.

During the summit days, construction activities on the Skyway 3 and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport elevated expressway will be temporarily stopped.

Malacañang earlier declared November 18 and 19 as special non-working holidays in the National Capital Region for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. Classes have also been suspended in Metro Manila schools from November 17 to 20. – Rappler.com
