Jardeleza still richest SC justice in 2015

MANILA, Philippines – Supreme Court Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza remains the richest member of the judiciary.

Based on the 2015 Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) summary report released by the Supreme Court, Jardeleza declared a net worth of P249.68 million, making him the richest among the SC justices for the second straight year.

Jardeleza was appointed to the SC in August 2014. In his first annual SALN as SC justice, he declared a net worth of P244.41 million.

Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo, the richest in the SC from 2011 to 2013, ranked second again in 2015 with a net worth of P130.91 million.

The judiciary's newest member, Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, declared a net worth of P117.18 million – the 3rd highest among the SC justices.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and most of the other justices became richer in 2015. Only Antonio Carpio declared a drop in his net worth.

Presbitero Velasco Jr had the biggest increase – from P12.22 million in 2014 to P14.76 million in 2015, or 20.77%.

The SC began releasing the justices' SALNs in 2012 following the impeachment of former chief justice Renato Corona. Apart from the SALNs, the SC also allowed the disclosure of the justices' credentials and personal data sheets. – Rappler.com
