CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Board of Canvassers proclaimed Tomas Osmeña as mayor-elect of Cebu City on Tuesday, May 10. (READ: LIVE COVERAGE: #PHVote 2016 Philippine Elections)
Osmeña of the Liberal Party (LP) won the mayoralty race with 266,556 votes; while his opponent Michael Rama of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) got 232,641 votes.
Meanwhile, UNA's Edgardo Labella was re-elected as the city vice mayor. Labella, who garnered 251,912 votes, edged LP's Nestor Archival who got 222,116 votes.
Supporters greeted and congratulated Osmeña and his wife, Margot, when they arrived at the canvassing center at the City Hall prior the proclamation.
Osmeña made a comeback after he lost to Rama in the May 13, 2013 mayoral election.
Osmeña, the grandson of the late President Sergio Osmeña, served as mayor of Cebu City from 1988 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2010. – Rappler.com
