MANILA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte keeps his lead over his rivals for the presidency, the latest SWS pre-election survey results revealed Friday, May 6.

Duterte maintained a 33% preference rating among 4,500 registered voters nationwide, in the survey conducted May 1-3 – the same period when issues about his alleged hidden wealth came into public consciousness.

His rating was unchanged compared to the last SWS survey, which covered April 18-20. Results of these SWS surveys have all been first published on BusinessWorld.

Coming in second place is Senator Grace Poe at 22%, down 2 percentage points; and third is former Interior secretary Manuel Roxas II, with 20%.

In 4th place is Vice President Jejomar Binay at 13%, and last is Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago at 2%, the survey results showed. Four percent of respondents, meanwhile, are still undecided, it added.

Meanwhile, the race for the vice presidency is a close fight between Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr and Camarines Sur 3rd District Representative Leni Robredo. (READ: VP race: Marcos, Robredo in virtual tie)

BusinessWorld said that analysts view voters' choice of Duterte for the presidency is a "protest vote" against President Benigno Aquino III's administration, but at the same time, isn't a clear reflection of how the actual results will come out after the polls close on Monday, May 9.

The survey's error margin is at +/- 1%. – Rappler.com
