MANILA, Philippines – Senator Grace Poe and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte were statistically tied for top spot in TV5's Bilang Pilipino Mobile Survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) on April 13.

The SMS survey results were first broadcast by TV5 and reported by Interaksyon on Saturday, April 16.

Poe obtained a national score of 34% – down by 1 percentage point from the March 22 Bilang Pilipino SWS Mobile Survey– while Duterte scored 33%, a 7-percentage point surge.

Duterte's improved score seems to indicate that the attacks of his rivals – the strongest coming from Vice President Jejomar Binay – have no bearing, so far, on voter preference for him. (READ: Binay to Duterte: 'Presidency not for liars, merciless killers)

Administration standard-bearer Manuel "Mar" Roxas II and United Nationalist Alliance standard-bearer Binay were statistically tied for second place – Roxas with 16%, down by 1-percentage point; and Binay with 15%, a 3-percentage point erosion.

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago obtained a score of 1%, down by 1 percentage point, while those who said they were still undecided on their presidential candidate stood at 1%.

Geographical areas

Among geographical locations, Duterte dominated Metro Manila with 36%, followed by Poe with 24%, Binay (18%), Roxas (17%), and Santiago (2%).

Poe was the favored candidate in Balance Luzon with 44%, followed by Duterte (23%), Binay (19%), Roxas (13%), and Santiago (1%).

Poe also led in the Visayas with 33%, followed by Roxas (28%), Duterte (27%), Binay (10%), and Santiago (2%).

Duterte led in Mindanao with 58%, followed by Poe (22%), Roxas (9%), Binay (8%), and Santiago (1%).

Economic classes

Among socio-economic classes, Duterte was the top candidate of the well-off Class ABC (39%), and the poorest Class E (30%).

Poe was most preferred by Class D (35%), though only 2 percentage points ahead of Duterte.

Another survey finding is that 61% of voters have made up their mind on their presidential candidate and would not change their choice anymore until election day.

The Bilang Pilipino SWS Mobile Survey uses a nationally representative sample of 1,200 validated voters – 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

These voters were invited, and agreed, to be members of a panel of respondents to receive and reply to a few survey questions each day using mobile phones provided to them for free by Starmobile.

In the April 13 survey, 676 or 56% of the 1,200 "panel members" responded: 181 in Metro Manila, 154 in Balance Luzon, 187 in Visayas and 154 in Mindanao. This gives sampling error margins of ±4% for national percentages, ±7% in Metro Manila and Visayas, and ±8% in Balance Luzon and Mindanao.

The questions for the April 13 survey were jointly designed by TV5 and SWS. – Rappler.com
