MANILA, Philippines – The chairman of the National Youth Commission (NYC) formally resigned from his post on Monday, April 4, to campaign for the ruling party for the May 9 elections.
"I believe it is the young who are the biggest beneficiaries of Daang Matuwid. This vision of empowering young people, their dreams and aspirations realized has been our work in the PNoy administration," NYC Chairman Gio Tingson told Rappler in a text message.
Another official of the NYC, Commissioner Jose Sixto "Dingdong" Dantes III, will also be leaving his government post within the week, sources privy to his plans told Rappler.
Dantes is set to endorse Robredo but is said to be supporting Senator Grace Poe's presidential bid.
Tingson was appointed chairman of the NYC in 2014.
He tendered his resignation on March 4, 2016. President Benigno Aquino III accepted his resignation, which took effect on April 4.
Aside from heading the youth commission, Tingson is also vice chairperson of the Akbayan party list, which is part of the ruling Liberal Party (LP)-led coalition. Several members of Akbayan play key roles in the Roxas-Robredo campaign.
Akbayan Representative Ibarra Gutierrez is the LP-led "Daang Matuwid" coalition’s spokesman while former representative Risa Hontiveros is part of the Senate slate. – Rappler.com
