MANILA, Philippines – Taiwan on Saturday, February 27, expressed shock and sadness over the killing and mutilation of a Filipino woman by her Taiwanese husband earlier this week.
In a statement, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) condemned the murder of Rowena Kuo, who was found dismembered in her Makati home last February 23.
"The ruthless homicide is abhorrent to this office and the Taiwanese people and actually seldom happened in Taiwan. Therefore, we wish to express our deepest condolences and sympathy to the next of kin of the victim at a time of grief and darkness," TECO said.
It added, "As the case has already been handed over to the appropriate Philippine judiciary authorities, we have full confidence that the relevant Philippine judicial authorities will conduct a fair trial and render justice to this case."
Police have arrested Kuo's husband, Yuan Chang Kuo, a surgeon, who earlier confessed that he decapitated his wife and chopped off her arms and legs reportedly because of jealousy.
The suspect then hid his wife's severed body parts in the stockroom of their Makati home. The victim's daughter found her mother's dismembered body a day after she had gone missing. –Rappler.com
