MANILA, Philippines – Joey Salgado, head of the media affairs group of the Office of Vice President (OVP) has resigned to focus on VP Jejomar Binay’s presidential bid.
“Yes, [I have resigned] to work full-time for the presidential campaign [of VP Binay],” Salgado told Rappler in a text message on Monday, February 8. He is now the communications director of Binay's campaign.
Salgado, a long-time spokesperson for the Vice President, said his resignation from the OVP is effective on February 9, the official start of the campaign period for the May polls.
According to Salgado, lawyer Rico Quicho will serve as Binay’s campaign spokesman while former journalist and Cainta mayor Mon Ilagan will be the spokesperson for Binay’s opposition party, the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA). (READ: 'Binay must be his own spokesman')
