MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III has nominated former Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) deputy secretary-general Alicia dela Rosa-Bala as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Malacañang announced on Tuesday, September 15.
Palace Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr said in a statement that the nomination of Bala has been forwarded to the Commission on Appointments.
Bala, who replaces Francisco Duque III whose term ended in February, will serve until February 2, 2022.
Prior to her nomination, Bala served as deputy secretary general of the ASEAN Secretariat based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Bala, who has been a Career Executive Service Officer (CESO) since 1999, served the Department of Social Welfare and Development starting 1976, as a training officer. She was DSWD undersecretary when she left the left the department in 2005.
She was named Outstanding Career Executive Service Officer in 2012.
Bala holds a Master in Social Work degree from the University of the Philippines and earned her Bachelors degree in Social Work from the Centro Escolar University. – Rappler.com
